Caution - There is some concern that using St. John's Wort oil before exposure to the sun may cause skin sensitisation, though it is beneficial for all after-sun products. Not all authorities agree on this, but it is wise to take precautions.
Uses - This vibrant red oil is made by macerating the flowers of St. John's Wort herb 40% in organic olive oil. It can be used topically for its cooling and toning effect on the skin and is anti-inflammatory, anti-viral and mildly astringent. It is useful for soothing skin irritations and treating dry, overheated and sun-exposed skin. It can help to heal the nerves under the skin's surface so is useful where there is mild pain associated with old injuries or muscular aches. It is nice on sensitive skin and is often included in baby products.
Organic Certificate - This oil is certified organic by the Soil Association, which means you can be sure that it has been produced to the highest ethical and environmental standards. The Soil Associationís standards exceed the UK government's minimum requirements for organic products in many areas, but particularly in animal welfare, GM and the use of pesticides. Standards are constantly reviewed to ensure they deal with current issues.
